The wood pellet industry in Europe encompassed some 482 producers with works in 20 European countries last year.

The estimated com-bined annual production capacity of these works is around 12-12.5m t.

The actual pellet output reached a figure roughly 7.5m t in 2008; approximately 3.5m t of this was accounted for by industrial pellets and around 4.5m t by high-quality pellets.

Pellet consumption in Europe last year was an estimated 8.5m t.

These are the results of the study carried out by WIP-Renewable Energies and presented in September 2009.
