Description
Formation - Oregon BioHeat Association

On July 21, 2009, a group comprised of Oregon densified fuel manufacturers, state agencies, conservation and economic development non-profits, energy consultants, and energy systems suppliers met in Portland with the intent of forming a non-profit trade organization. The mission of Oregon BioHeat Association is to collaborate on educating the public and promoting the further use of densified wood fuel such as pellets, firelogs and fuel-bricks manufactured by Oregon companies from renewable, sustainable biomass sourced from Oregon.

Spokesperson for the group, Chris Sharron of West Oregon Wood Products, states: This is a global industry pioneered in the Pacific NW and with strong roots in Oregon. Oregon has tremendous resources and a strong, able workforce that, together, can help lessen dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels that are typically sourced from outside the US. This biomass, which is classed as carbon friendly, can potentially reduce the threat of wildfires by utilizing excess wood from overgrown forests.

Timing is acute, with further incentives being offered by the federal government in the way of federal tax credits for individuals who purchase and install clean-burning pellet and woodstoves. Additional information regarding Oregon BioHeat Association (including membership) will be forthcoming at www.oregonbioheat.org.
