HELENA, Mont. (AP) U.S. Sen. Jon Tester says his bill that aims to create compromise between loggers and environmentalists will be unveiled Friday.
The senator's office has kept a lid on many details in the proposal.
So far, they have only confirmed that it borrows from plans to create new wilderness in three areas while also charting out new areas for logging.
Those ideas come from the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Partnership, along with smaller proposals in the Seeley Lake area from the Blackfoot-Clearwater Stewardship Project and another in northwestern Montana from Three Rivers Challenge.
Tester says his plan will "put folks back to work in the woods," while also protecting habitat.
Some environmentalists complain the plan was hatched in secret and sacrifices crucial habitat.
The senator is planning on making Friday's announcement at RY Timber in Townsend.
