MANAGER WASHINGTON TIMBERLANDS April 2004 to April 2008:
Responsible for tree farm operations in Washington State. Five tree farms totaling approximately 250,000 acres. 12 direct reports.

Assistant to the Senior Vice President, Timber and Southwest Washington Tree Farm Manager (1997 2004) Trained a successor for the land transactions function, managed the 78,000 acre Southwest Washington Tree Farm, trained an assistant tree farm mgr., responsible for production of 27 to 37 million feet per year, road and unit layout, contracting, permitting, neighbor relations, adherence to Forest Practices Regulations, worked successfully with logging and road building contractors. Assistant to the Senior Vice President, Timber (1992-1997) Responsible for all aspects of land transactions. Oversight for cruising of USFS sales for company sawmill. I increased the capacity and turnaround of our appraisal data processing. Examined and appraised 170,000 acres for acquisition, sale or exchange. Company land base increased by 31,000 acres. The value of closed purchases and exchanges exceeded $150 million on 50,000+ acres. Assistant Tree Farm Mgr/Inventory Forester (1989 1992) Road layout, unit layout, contracting and logging supervision on the Deer Island Tree Farm, Columbia County, OR. (Duties as Inventory Forester continued during this two year posting.) Staff forester/ Inventory Forester (1983 1989) Inventory, appraisal cruises, developed companys appraisal cruising methods, moved the timberland inventory system from the mainframe to a PC based system. Established the right balance with 5 Washington tree farm managers allowing them to maintain autonomy while still accomplishing company goals. Developed the harvest unit reporting system that became the building block for company production plans and forecasts in both states. Contributed to the REIT conversion process and to the transition to Longview Timber Corp after Brookfield Asset Managements purchase. Coordinated successfully with a third-party consultant responsible for periodic reviews of company (internal) log pricing Worked successfully with consultants, agencies, private parties, title companies and attorneys on land purchases and sales. Helped interview and hire some of the younger foresters on staff and then made myself available to them as a resource. Established the first comprehensive, map-based harvest unit system while manager of the Southwest Washington Tree Farm, and began using this for yearly harvest plans. Built successful business relationships with hardwood log buyers.
