The Department of Forestry and Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at Michigan State University are seeking applicants for a full-time academic year (9-month) tenure-track, Assistant Professor position with expertise in harvesting, pre-processing, transport, and storage of woody biomass. This position carries a 60% appointment in the Department of Forestry and 40% in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to build a nationally recognized scholarly research program in systems approaches to woody biomass supply chains, as demonstrated by research grants, publications in leading refereed journals, and graduate student recruitment and training at both the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. Initial teaching duties will include a course in woody biomass harvesting that is a required course in the accredited curriculum in the Department of Forestry. A Ph.D. in forest engineering, biosystems/biological engineering, agricultural engineering, forestry or related field is required. A demonstrated record of success in soliciting research grants, teaching experience, and publications in leading refereed journals is desirable.
This position is part of a developing center for bio-based renewable energy jointly in the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources and of Engineering at Michigan State University. A cluster of several new academic tenure track faculty positions has been established within these two colleges to create a world-class program in the area of biofuels/bioenergy/bioproducts based on woody biomass. This position complements activities of several current faculty members working in this area.
