When fire season hits, a Caterpillar was always there to answer the call. In the early years, our response to fire was mainly reactionary.Today, we are more proactive. We do prescribed burns to diminish forest fuel loads and often create buffers along roads and highways.
To assist with these tasks we have equipped our Cat D3K-D5K with special forestry packages. These tractors are commonly used to pull a fire plow or build a buffer strip.
Mastication
In 2007, Caterpillar purchased the Forestry Equipment Division from Blount Inc. Today, Caterpillar manufacturers and markets these site prep tractors under the Prentice brand.
Fiber recovery
Today across North America, there is a growing demand for biomass. New technology is developing alternative ways to allow us to be more energy independent and utilize the abundant renewable resources that surrounds us.
