NECN: John Moroney, Fitchburg, Mass.) - The nation's unemployment picture tells two different stories.
The number of Americans losing their jobs is down, with new jobless figures falling by 24,000 last week to 601,000.
But the number of unemployed people continuing to claim benefits rose for its 19th consecutive week to 6.8 million -- the highest in recorded history.
One Massachusetts community all-too-aware of those statistics received a helping hand on Saturday.
An old mill, serving as the headquarters for Creative BioMass, will bring at least 30 jobs to a community that features an unemployment figure of about 10-percent.
Much of the old equipment at the mill can be re-used to produce wood pellets.
"I see a lot of potential in the city of Fitchburg. There's reasonably priced property, the taxes are reasonable, there's a lot of people here that want to get back to work,"
Creative BioMass plans to call back prospective employees next week.
