Description
The blue gum timber harvest in Victoria's far south-west has been delayed by the collapse of agribusinesses Great Southern and Timbercorp.

The harvest is expected to start next year and will be worth about $300 million annually.

Dr John Kellas from the Plantation Timbers Group says the facility will need to handle massive volumes of woodchips.

"The work that the Green Triangle Regional Plantation [Committee] has previously done on wood flows would indicate between now and 2019 the average annual production would be about three to 3.7 million tonnes," he said.

"It's a big opportunity now for the region to get value for the blue gum plantations that have been established for the last 10 or 15 years."
